Cheapcarrentallinks.com

With a vast amount of cheap car rental sites, Cheapcarrentallinks.com has developed a comprehensive list of all of the best car rental links - from TravelNow and a host of other sites. You can search for anything from an economy car, to a luxury sedan, to a passenger van

Budget.com

This site is easy to navigate and pretty straight forward. If you’re under 25, you don’t have to check out each individual location to find one that thinks you’re responsible enough to use their cars. On the frequently asked questions page, there is an easy to read list with contact information for all the locations willing to serve you, as well as how much extra they charge younger drivers. Most fees range from about $10 to $25 per day, however if you are renting in York, you might have to pay a hefty $115 to compensate for your youth.

Avis.com

On the Avis site, you can find out almost anything you want to know about renting a care pretty easily. It has a tabbed format for easy browsing and it includes a “Deals” section with some good bargains. There’s even a "My Avis" feature that allows frequent renters to speed up the online rental process by storing personal details such as your driver’s license information on the secure site. The site also includes a feature for planning itineraries online.

Hertz.com

This is a great site to find deals on renting cars in lots of places around the world, but for US travel, the prices Hertz offers just aren’t as good as some of its competitors'. The site is pretty easy to use, but you might find that the other rental companies' sites are faster to navigate because you have to identify your country before you can get to their homepage.

Enterprise.com

Like most rental car sites, the home page includes an online reservations form. The form is pretty standard, so if you don’t have any questions about company rules, you’ll have no problem. If however you want to know things like how old you have to be to get a ride, you have to do a bit more sleuthing. The “Find Answers” link is in a non-descript location on the "Contact Us" page. The age requirements vary by location, but you have to find out from each individual location what these requirements are and how much they will charge you. After all of that hassle, though, they do promise to pick you up when you rent from them.

Dollar.com

Dollar offers great rates if you need a car almost anywhere in the western hemisphere. They also have locations in Europe and South Africa. If you want a car to use anywhere else, you’re out of luck.

Carrentals.com

This site isn’t especially great looking, but it offers some decent deals on cars from most major rental companies. The prices include all taxes and fees except any additional charges for renters under 25. You can change your reservation which is nice, but if you want any special amenities like ski racks, you’ll have to call the specific vendor to arrange it. The best advice we can give is to start your search here and then compare the prices to the companies' direct sites.

Rentalcars.com

The deals on this site weren’t any better than elsewhere and the search function was on the slow side. However Rentalcars does search several different companies' rates and offers a name-your-own-price option through Priceline. This makes the site quite convenient, because you can check out the list prices for cars and then place your bid accordingly. If you are under 25, make sure you include enough to cover any age-based surcharge.

Nationalcar.com

There are some good specials on this site, but many of their prices are a bit painful for the budget traveler. This company has a good FAQ page that clearly explains policies. If you are under 25 you can expect to pay $25 at most locations outside of New York and Boston.

Thrifty.com

The rentals on this site are nice and cheap, plus if you find a lower rate for a Thrifty car anywhere on the Web, they promise to beat it by 10 percent. If you have any questions, you can talk to a customer care representative on the phone or via instant messaging.

Alamo.com

This company offers fair, but not exceptional rates. Make sure to keep your eyes open for published Alamo deals for 24 hours after booking. If you find something better than what you paid, the company will adjust your rate to be 10 percent lower than the published rate.

Foxrentacar.com

While this company doesn’t have as many locations as the larger rental companies, its page is definitely worth checking out for its exceptional bargains. Most of its rental centers are near airports in the seven states where Fox Rent a Car operates. The company also has a presence in a somewhat random collection of six locations abroad. The environmentally conscious can rent a hybrid car and drive guilt-free.
