Feels Like Home - Hostel Review
By: Justin Jones (justin) 2009.04.23

HostelsClub.com allows you to make secure online bookings for hostels, budget hotels, B&Bs, guest houses and camping grounds from their selection of over 13,500 properties in 120 different countries. Avoid booking fees when you make your next booking!

Hostel As any seasoned backpacker will tell you, hostels can range from clean and classy budget resorts to run-down dungeons. Most fall somewhere in between. One thing that seems to set the best above the rest is that some hostels just feel like home.

HOME HOSTELS
Valencia and Barcelona, Spain

Home Hostels have three locations in Valencia and one in Barcelona, Spain. Their quirky modern interiors offer a welcomed respite from the bare walls and prison-like dorms of other hostels. Dorm rooms start at $17, and their Deluxe Budget Hotel in Valencia even offers king-sized beds starting at $28. Many of the rooms are custom-designed theme-rooms with names like “Safari” (think leopard print and fur) and “Kyomei” (a tranquil Japanese-influenced setting). Most of their locations have roof terraces, TV rooms, lounges, and friendly, multi-lingual staff to help you feel at home.

HOSTEL CANADIANA BACKPACKERS INN
Toronto, Canada

In 2005 Lonely Planet called the Canadiana “Toronto’s best-run hostel … with a communal feel that makes it hard to feel homesick.” The Canadiana’s rooms, which start at $24, are small, four-person rooms with large wooden creak-free beds to give it a cozier, more homey feel. They even have a free Canadian breakfast with pancakes and maple syrup and weekly barbeques. The hostel is housed in four Victorian townhouses, and boasts high ceilings and hardwood floors that help it retain its Victorian charm.

ATILLA’S GETAWAY
Selçuk, Turkey

Atilla’s Getaway is an oasis of relaxation and good times in Selçuk, Turkey. The focal point of this hostel is the pool and garden area, which is surrounded by cozy Turkish bungalows and a well-equipped bar, where you can often find Atilla himself mixing up his latest concoction. Selçuk may not be on the top of every backpacker’s destination list, but it is located near the ruins of the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Dorms start at $10, and you can get breakfast and dinner included for just $6 more. It’s easy to stay for a week, even if you only planned on staying for a day. With the pool, the bar, the pool table and the ubiquitous backgammon boards there is no shortage of relaxing and fun activities to keep you feeling right at home.
