Travel Photo Contest Winners
By: Student Traveler (justin) 2007.04.16

We asked our readers to send us their best travel photos from the road, and the response was incredible! We received some amazing images from all over the world. It was hard to choose a winner, but with the help of our Photo Editor, Caty Dioguardi, we were able to narrow it down to our three favorites.
Check out these winning travel photos from Student Traveler readers!
First Place
The ground of Piazza San Marco in Venice seemed to sway like the tide as a seamless array of warm, feathered bodies moved to and fro from one food source to another. Apparently, one Euro's worth of bird feed could create quite a stir. Everywhere I turned, I saw throngs of pigeons flocking to inviting human hands. Some pecked away in midair while others perched contently on tourists' shoulders or the tops of their heads, waiting for the perfect moment to swoop down and feast. This photograph captures the whirlwind of wings - a perfect combination of stillness and motion - that one could only experience in Piazza San Marco.
As a mostly abstract photographer, I always look for simple forms such as lines, shapes, and repitition to create an engaging image. In this particular photograph, taken of the Tower Bridge in London, England, I focused on the lines and shapes of the bridge to simplify its beautiful architecture.
This photo was taken outside of Uyuni, Bolivia during my two months of bus travel through South America between semesters in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I had recognized the volcano pictured from seeing it from the other side in San Pedro de Atacama, Chile and took the photo so as to have a picture from each side of the border. The clouds and the water were just my good luck.
